Well, she has not been bitten literally, but boy oh boy, has she been burned in all its figurative sense! When Vice President Joe Biden bought a puppy from Linda Brown in December, she was ecstatic. And why not? It is not everyday that you get to have the Vice President of your country as your customer, right? As Brown said “I thought when Joe Biden bought a puppy from me, what an honor. Out of millions of breeders in the country, in the world, he picked me.” [Read more…]
No Band-Aid For Wade
Basketball fans all over the world have probably noticed a rather unique fashion accessory that one of the biggest basketball stars in the NBA. Dwayne Wade. Prior to the All-Star Weekend, Wade – who is the league’s leading scorer, by the way – cut his left cheek. Naturally, it needed medical attention, however slight his injury might have been, so he placed a Band-Aid on his cheek.
This band-aid is somehow different from the usual stuff that we can buy at the corner drugstore. Well, actually, it is the same stuff but Wade pretty soon added his own twist to the Band-Aids. For starters, he put his nickname “Flash.” Then he put the American flag on it as well – all this despite the fact that his wound had healed.
Of course, this delighted his fans, as it was somewhat of a different fashion statement. In such a short span of time, Wade was able to create his own stamp. It is going to be short-lived, however, as the NBA is going the route that the NFL has taken before.
The league is banning the superstar from using the Band-Aid in future games. Tim Frank, the NBA spokesman says that they already talked to the management of The Heat, reiterating the rule that Band-Aids can only be worn for medical purposes. The league aims for uniformity with regard to the players’ dress code when in the arena.
I suppose this means one thing for Dwayne Wade fans – no more “Flashy” Band-Aids. Am sure that would not get in the way of his skills on the court, though.
The Lives Of The World’s Longest Fingernails Cut Short
In the back of my mind, I probably knew that somewhere, someone holds the record for the longest fingernails in the world. I just didn’t really pay attention to it – who does? I am sure that the woman who holds that record does, however!
Lee Redmond, the woman who holds the record for the world’s longest fingernails – held the record would probably be the better term now – was involved in a car accident early in February. The Associate Press reported that she suffered from serious injuries. She seems to be doing fine however as they were not life threatening.
This is what the Guinness World Records has written about her:
Lee Redmond (USA), who has not cut her nails since 1979, has grown and carefully manicured them to reach a total length of 8.65 m (28 ft 4.5 in) as measured on the set of Lo show dei record in Madrid, Spain, on 23 February 2008.
The longest nail is the right thumb: 90 cm (2 ft 11 in).
After the accident, however, Redmond’s reign as the queen of fingernails was cut short. Lt. Don Hutson, from the Salt Lake County Sheriff. No specific information has been released as to how long – or short – her fingernails are now. Do take a look at that picture, though. I cannot even begin to imagine how she can carry on with her daily life with those fingernails! Perhaps, since she is not the record holder anymore, at least she can live a more normal life?
$1,000 Phone Sex Bill For An 86-Year-Old Woman
Sometimes, when people try to pull off a scam, they do not pay much attention to the details, do they? Take this latest scam which borders on the ridiculous. Someone, somewhere out there, stole the identity of a man who has long passed away; created a credit card account in that man’s name, and then managed to charge over a $1,000 in phone sex bills.
Unfortunately – or fortunately, as the case may be – the bill went to the widow of the “card holder.” Arlene Hald, 86 years old, received a credit card bill from Preferred Platinum Plan. The bill was addressed to her husband Sylvester, who passed away about 20 years ago. Hald declares that they never had a credit card.
Naturally, the family took action and contacted Preferred Platinum Plan. To be fair to them, they immediately agreed to “remove the charges.” Then again, there should be no question about that, right? The company was probably still non-existent when Sylvester passed away!
Peggy Rytych, Arlene Hald’s daughter has stated that it was probably a case of ID theft and she may very well be right. While they were satisfied that the phone sex bill incident was taken care of, they had another surprise coming. Not long after that matter was resolved, another bill arrived – this time for $70.
These companies do not seem to get it, do they? I think that it is time for someone to take a closer look into this Preferred Platinum Plan entity. You would think that they were stricter on these things.
