Buying gifts for men can be both a lot of fun and a tough challenge. Some guys prefer funky gadgets, others appreciate more classy gifts, and some are just happy to get anything that isn’t tie.
Here’s a list of five items for the men in your life, to at least get you started in the right direction.
1. Wireless car mouse
For those guys who love cars, computers, or both, these cool gadgets are great. They’re available at Skymall’s website, and they come in a variety of models.
If the man you’re buying it for is particularly interested in cars, make sure you get the right model. If they’re not that interested, get whichever one you think the guy will like the best — or the one that comes in a color that matches his offfice.
2. Custom poker set
If the man’s a card player, a customized poker set might be a pleasing gift. Poker nights with the guys can be bonding rituals for men, and it’s nice for guys to have their own equipment.
The chips can be customized with the guys’ names. Other kits come with customized cases and nameplates. Either way, your man is going to be an instant high roller with his very own set. It might bring him some extra luck, too, whether he’s playing Texas Hold ‘Em or Five Card Stud.
3. Shaving set
My dad uses an old-fashioned shaving set. He has a beaver-hair brush, special powder that he works into a paste, and a very, very nice razor.
This is not going to be a gift that every man enjoys, but men who care about their skin and grooming might be highly appreciative of this present. It’s the gift that keeps on giving, and he will think of you every day he uses it.
4. Scuba lessons
This is a great gift for guys who love a bit of adventure. Scuba diving is a fun sport, and getting lessons for a guy is a good way to see if he’s interested. A lot of local scuba shops offer the first lesson at a discounted price; hotels sometimes promote scuba instruction, usually with a scuba trip thrown in.
This would be great to plan as a surprise day on a honeymoon or another tropical, water-based vacation you take together. They can be booked in advance, usually via the Internet. The other gifts on our list can be purchased online as well.
5. Personalized liquor keg
If your man has enjoyed a kegger or two in his time, getting him a personalized keg might be a great gift. It’s for the more sophisticated drinker — smaller than a “real” keg — but usually holds up to a gallon of liquor.
For a bonus, pre-fill it with his favorite booze and set it up where he’ll find it. Putting glasses next to it with a little note is a way to make it even more special.
